(A) >>>>>WE SHUT DOWN TE PAPA!!! From Wellington to Gaza; Long live the Intifada!>>>>>>

On Tuesday members of the University of Auckland Students for Justice in Palestine participated in a four hour shut down to public of the national museum, Te Papa, in Wellington. Spot the Palestinian flag flying high above the blockades. It served as a rallying point for everyone there and was always flying high above the scenes of thickest
scuffling between the forces of the state and the anti-militarist movement.

Between two and three hundred demonstrators caused major disruption for four hours to the annual forum of the New Zealand’s weapons traders and manufacturers other wise known as the New Zealand Defence Industry Association (NZDIA).

The demonstration once it reached the Te Papa forecourt then occupied the only gap between the police fence and the building. Scuffles broke out between the demonstrators and the police as Te Papa was gradually surrounded by more and more blockades; eventually eight blockades were put in place and Te Papa was shut to the public for the rest of the
day. Music was provided at the blockade on the main entrance by the Brass Razoo Solidarity Band, Jesse Moss, Ryan Prebble and the awesome Imon Star. Food Not Bombs kept those in the blockade and surrounding them fed and watered.

2. Roadblocks up by 40% in West Ban
The number of Israeli military road blocks in the West Bank grew by nearly 40% in the past year, part of an increasingly sophisticated lockdown that disrupts all aspects of Palestinian life, a UN aid agency said yesterday. The placement of these checkpoints and unmanned physical obstacles means the West Bank is increasingly being carved up into separate parts, with travel between them becoming more and more difficult, said David Shearer, the head of the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) in Jerusalem.

“The first time it was reported that our friends were being butchered there was a cry of horror. Then a hundred were butchered. But when a thousand were butchered and
there was no end to the butchery, a blanket of silence spread. When evil doing comes like falling rain, nobody calls out ‘stop!'”

5. Gaza doctors say patients suffering mystery injuries after Israeli attacks Doctors in Gaza have reported previously unseen injuries from Israeli weapons that cause severe burning and leave deep internal wounds, often resulting in amputations or death. The injuries were first seen in July, when Israel launched operations in Gaza following the capture of an Israeli soldier by Palestinian militants.

“Remember the solidarity shown to Palestine here and everywhere… and remember also that there is a cause to which many people have committed themselves, difficulties and terrible obstacles notwithstanding. Why? Because it is a just cause, a noble ideal, a moral quest for equality and human rights.” – Edward Said, Palestinian/American historian/political commentator
